Principal's Message - Dec. 2nd

Greetings, Elma Primary Families.

We hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving!  We are excited to welcome students back today.

With the snow having fallen and the temperatures dropping, please send your child with warm outdoor clothes (hat, gloves, snowpants, coats, and boots).  PE classes and recess will be outdoors when possible, and we don’t want any students to miss out on the fun.  Sledding season has begun!

We will run our second of two lockdown drills this week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Report cards will be sent home with students this Wednesday, December 4th, and our first round of Parent-Teacher conferences will run this Thursday, December 5th, which will be an early dismissal day.  (Please note this is different than the original date noted on the District calendar.)  Students being picked up will be dismissed at 10:35, and buses will depart at 11:00.  If there is a change in your child’s dismissal plan, please send in a note.

This Friday, December 6th, our PTO will host Santa’s Secret Shop throughout the day.  All students will have the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts for family members.  Any families who wish for their children to participate but are dealing with financial difficulties are encouraged to contact our School Counselor Mrs. Aroune (652-3000, ex. 2870) for assistance, which we will provide confidentially.

A reminder to mark your calendars for our Holiday Sing-Along Concerts, which will take place on Tuesday, December 17th.  Kindergarten and 1st grade will perform at 9:15 AM, and 2nd and 3rd grade will perform at 1:30 PM.  Due to the size of our 2nd and 3rd grade classes and our space limitations, we will only be able to accommodate 2 guests per student at the afternoon performance.

Finally, please consider supporting The Red Hawks’ Nest Project.  The Red Hawks’ Nest Project aims to build a new pavilion and enhance the Intermediate School recess area on our main campus.  Play spaces at the Primary Schools have been possible due to our generous community. Securing an adequate outdoor play space for the Intermediate School 4th and 5th grade students will require that same community support.
